The packaging and labeling industry will become the "potential army" for the development of the European printing industry

It was learned from the World Printing Forum held in the Netherlands recently that the EU has 27 member states and 500 million permanent residents, with a total GDP of 1.2 trillion euros. According to relevant data in 2010, the EU has a total of 121,000 printing companies with 714,000 employees and an annual output value of 88 billion euros.
At present, the overall development of the EU printing industry is showing an imbalance. According to statistics from 2010, the output value of the German printing industry ranks first in the region, followed by the United Kingdom, Italy, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden and so on. The number of printing companies declined from about 135,000 in 2007 to 122,000 in 2010; the number of employees has fallen, from about 960,000 in the peak of 2001 to 720,000 in 2010, down 25%; total output value It also fell from about 117 billion euros at the peak of 2008 to 88 billion euros in 2010, down 16%. According to relevant forecasts, the output value of the printing industry in the EU will also show a downward trend in 2013 and 2014.
In terms of import and export of printed materials, in 2011, print exports from the UK, Germany and France accounted for 32% of the entire EU printing market, and imports accounted for 24% of the EU total printing market. The rapidly developing Chinese printing industry has become the largest import source of printed materials in the EU. From 1999 to 2011, China’s exports to the EU increased its printing volume from less than 200 million euros to 1 billion euros.
According to a report by the Pine Company on the Outlook of the Printing Industry in Europe from 2012 to 2017, the packaging and labeling industry will become the largest potential army for the future development of the printing industry in the region. In 2012, the output value of the EU packaging and labeling industry accounted for 42% of the total market, while commercial printing ranked second, accounting for 18%.
For the main pressures facing the development of the printing industry in the future, the survey shows that 64.7% of the printing companies in the EU believe that “the fierce competition in printing prices” ranks first, followed by “the decline in market demand (61%)” and “ Competition in other media (42.3%), and factors from the “economic crisis” ranked fourth (31.5%).
